Four strong and wonderful women were responsible for my upbringing. My mother was a single mom who worked diligently to provide a good life for her two children, me, and my brother with special needs. Because she worked two jobs, when I was just four-years-old, she enlisted the help of her mother, Lorraine, and a lifelong friend, Mable Loe who stepped in as a foster mother to me. Those three women got me through the first half of my life to age 39. As my mother was dying, she asked her absolute best friend, Evangeline “Van” Anderson, to take care of me. For the past 34 years, Van has been beside me the whole way. Those four women are the embodiment of Mother’s Day, and I honor and love them all.
